Blue Mountains Tour
The Three Sisters The Blue Mountains
The Three Sisters Blue Mountain Landscape
On my fourth day here I took a side trip to an area about an hour outside of Sydney known as the Blue Mountains. The Blue Mountains received their name from the bluish haze that hangs over them, which is caused by the oil given off by the Eucalyptus trees. In many ways they resemble America's Appalachian Mountains, especially the stretch through Great Smoky Mountains National Park. On our way to the mountains, we stopped at the Australian Wildlife park, where we were able to see Australia's animals up close. We saw Koalas, Kangaroos, Echidnas (look that one up), Tasmanian devils and an enormous Saltwater Crocodile. The zoo keeper even let me hold a baby Koala for a minute. They are so cute, I wanted to take one home. I doubt they'd do to well in our lovely climate.
