Betsie River Pathway

Connecting Frankfort, Elberta, and Benzonia, The Betsie River Pathway is Michigan's newest paved rail-trail. It starts just east of downtown Frankfort, runs along the bay to Elberta, where it turns and follows River Road for a while before heading north along the River. After passing M115, the trail become gravel along Crystal Lake and  into downtown Benzonia, The gravel path runs through the back yard of all the summer cottages along Crystal Lake, so this stretch is harder to bike on nice days in the summer. It runs 7 miles paved from Frankfort to Crystal Lake, and three mile of gravel to Benzonia. It is my favorite Michigan trail, but I am partial to this area because of my time working at Camp Arcadia, 10 miles south of Frankfort.
